About the Role
Marek Health is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our growing Finance team. This role is designed for an
experienced accounting professional who is ready to deepen their technical expertise, take on greater ownership
of the close process, and build toward a Controller position within 2–3 years. You will work closely with the
current Controller, gaining direct mentorship and progressively greater responsibility across financial reporting,
technical accounting, and process improvement.
Marek Health currently partners with outsourced accounting support. A key priority for this
role is helping bring more accounting analysis and decision-making in-house — building our internal capability
to own judgment calls like accruals, revenue treatment, and other technical areas that are currently handled
externally, so the team can move faster and have more direct control over accounting outcomes.
In short: help us build this function in-house.
This is a career-track role, not just a job — we are specifically looking for someone with the ambition, judgment,
and technical foundation to grow into a leadership position on our finance team.
What You'll Do:
What We're Looking For
This role has a defined runway toward a Controller position within approximately 2–3 years, contingent on
performance and business needs. You'll receive direct mentorship from the current Controller, with structured
opportunities to take on additional scope — from owning more of the close, to leading process improvements, to
progressively taking over analysis and decisions currently handled by our outsourced accounting firm.
As you grow into the role, you'll play a central part in building Marek Health's internal accounting capability and
eventually stepping into full oversight of the function.

What You'll Do:
- Initially review with outsourced accounting firm the accounting process across the company's multiple entities, ensuring intercompany transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.
- Review and ensure proper treatment of MSO-PC management fees, cost allocations, and revenue flows between entities.
- Assist in supporting the MSO-PC reporting and compliance functions.
- Analyze existing revenue transactions to determine proper GAAP accounting treatment and assist in identification of a more accurate accounting system for revenue recognition.
- Own key components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Partner with outsourced accounting firm to ensure reconciliations for cash, revenue, prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, and fixed assets and reviewed and accurate.
- Partner with the CFO on technical accounting research and memo preparation for non-routine transactions.
- Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process, including variance analysis versus actuals.
- Work with our outsourced accounting firm, to develop and maintain a shared calendar covering payroll, commissions, and month-end close deadlines.
- Take on accounting judgment calls and analysis currently — such as accrual calculations, revenue treatment, and reconciliation review — building toward greater internal ownership of the close and reducing reliance on outsourced support over time.
- Create and maintain the company's tax calendar, working to track filing deadlines, estimated payments, and required documentation.
- Assist with external audit and tax preparation, serving as a primary point of contact for information requests.
- Identify and implement process improvements and internal controls as the company scales.
- Help evaluate and support the implementation of accounting systems, tools, and automation.
- Take on increasing oversight of the close calendar and reporting cadence over time, with a clear path to managing the function directly as Controller.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with a health optimization, wellness, telehealth, or similar healthcare company.
- CPA is a plus but not required.
- Solid working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and month-end/year-end close processes.
- Familiarity with PC-MSO (Professional Corporation / Management Services Organization) structures and related accounting considerations.
- General healthcare industry knowledge — comfort with the operational and regulatory nuances of a healthcare or health-services business.
- Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct (general ledger) required.
- Experience with Martus budgeting/planning software preferred.
- Experience using Bill.com for AP/payment workflows preferred.
- Working knowledge of Gusto payroll.
- Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills; experience with financial reporting and analysis.
- Excellent attention to detail paired with the ability to see the bigger financial picture.
- Clear communicator who can explain accounting concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
- A self-starter mindset — comfortable in a remote, fast-moving, growth-stage company where processes are still being built.
- Demonstrated interest in growing into a leadership role, with the accountability and follow-through that requires.
- Experience working directly with external auditors or supporting a financial statement audit.
- Exposure to multi-entity or multi-state accounting.
- Prior experience mentoring or managing other accounting staff.
